How Much Do Movers Cost?

What are Moving Company Prices?

Here we will discuss moving company cost.

The First Step is determining which type of moving company you need. For example, if you are moving from a 1 bedroom apartment, you don’t need the top of the line moving company. If you are moving from a 5,500 Square Foot home, you probably want a top of the line mover. Here are some guidelines to determine which type of mover you need.

  • If you are moving out of an apartment or a small storage unit and don’t have super nice things, then I would go with a lower tier moving company. These companies typically range from $30-$35 dollars per man per hour. These companies are likely to not go above and beyond for you, but they can probably get the job done. Just make sure your moving company is properly insured. With lower tier moving companies, you will want to watch them and also supervise them. Lower tier movers typically make mistakes such as losing hardware to your furniture, getting your mattress dirty, move a little slower, less customer service oriented, and likely not to hold great skill sets. But they can lower you moving cost by having a cheap hourly rate. Cheap moving companies can be fine for the right type of move. You should never have to pay extra fees for your moving company.
  • If you are moving out of a nice apartment, moving from a home over 1,500 square feet, or have decently nice things, you will want to choose at least a medium tier company. These moving companies are likely to come in nice moving trucks, come prepared with moving equipment such as tools, dollies, plastic wrap, etc.. They will also likely work hard and possess some moving skill set. Average moving companies are fine for smaller jobs or jobs will little complexity. They likely won’t have the same level as support from the office or be near as customer oriented as your premier moving companies. These middle tier moving companies typically charge between $40 – $50 per man per hour. Again, the hourly rate should be all inclusive of all fees.
  • If you are moving out of a 2,000 square foot home or more, or moving nice things, you will want a premium moving company. These companies come with all Inclusive pricing and go above and beyond for their clients. They are likely to be great at collecting your move details, ensuring they live up to their commitment, come to the job with top of the line equipment, and have a focus on customer service that give you and your family an amazing moving experience. They will also provide packing service, move specialty items such as baby grand pianos, pool tables, safes, etc.. Another great thing about selecting a premium moving company is that they will likely go above and beyond to make any situation that went wrong, right. Choosing a high end moving company will ensure your furniture makes it to your destination in great condition and their promises are fulfilled. These companies typcially charge between $50-$60 per man per hour.

Now we will go into specific move cost for your home you will be moving. The best way to determine the cost of your upcoming move is to base it off of Square Feet. This will tell you how many men you will need, how many trucks, and an hourly range.

Below you will see a moving cost table. This is for local moves. Use the square footage from our starting address to determine the move cost. Take the projected hours and multiply it by the hourly rate of your potential moving company.

If you are moving further than just a local move, look at the below table on pricing. This would be using a premium company that does not combine your items with other people items. This is using a long distance moving company and not a van line. Van lines can be much cheaper, but come with much higher risk of damage and no guaranteed delivery times.
